Project Information

A proposal for a new gallery space for CAST (Contemporary Art Services Tasmania) on Hobart’s waterfront.

The gallery is envisaged as a temporary re-locatable building that is literally a crate for artwork. This proposal pushes the idea of a contemporary art gallery to its logical limit by allowing both the interior and exterior character of the building to be controlled by the artist. The crate then is not only a literal metaphor as a container for art, but altos becomes the artwork itself.

The skin of the crate can be controlled by the artist, becoming part of the artwork and interacting with the life of the city.
